Each platform reads the same Open Graph tags but crops, truncates, and caches them differently. Open the checker for the app you are sharing in.
Messaging apps and chat platforms scrape a URL's HTML head for Open Graph, Twitter Card, and oEmbed metadata, then assemble a preview card client-side.
If those tags are missing, platforms fall back to the <title> and the first usable image they can find — often with poor results.
Every platform reads the same core tags — og:title, og:description, og:image, and og:url — but each renders them differently: Slack and Discord show a full card with description, iMessage shows title and domain over the image, and WhatsApp usually crops the image to a small square thumbnail.
