    How Telegram renders shared links

Telegram fetches Open Graph tags server-side with its own crawler (it identifies itself as TelegramBot) and renders a card with the title, description, and image under the message. The tags you control are the standard og:title, og:description, and og:image.

Instant View is a separate feature: for sites that have an approved Instant View template, the preview gains an 'Instant View' button that opens a stripped-down, fast-loading copy of the article inside Telegram. Instant View is driven by Telegram's templates, not by your Open Graph tags — the card itself still comes from Open Graph.

Image aspect ratio changes the layout. A landscape image around 1200×630 typically renders as a large preview beneath the text, while a small or square image is shown as a compact thumbnail beside the title. If the wrong layout appears, the size and proportions of og:image are the first thing to check.

Telegram caches preview data on its servers, so a fix on your page does not immediately change what new messages show. Telegram provides @WebpageBot for this: send it the URL and it refreshes the cached preview.

As with every scraper, the tags must be present in the server-rendered HTML — Telegram's fetcher does not execute JavaScript — and the URL must return a 200 to non-browser clients. Pages that block unknown user agents produce a bare link with no card.

    Common use cases

    Channel posts

Verify the card before posting to a large channel, where every subscriber sees the same cached preview.

    Layout QA

Check whether og:image renders as a large preview or a side thumbnail based on its dimensions.

    Refreshing stale previews

Confirm the live tags are correct before asking @WebpageBot to refresh Telegram's cache.

    Publisher workflows

Make sure article metadata is right for both the Open Graph card and any Instant View template.
