## Why X posts need a real shortener

X auto-shortens long URLs with t.co, but that strips your branding, hides the destination, and gives you zero click analytics. A real shortener gives you a branded slug, an editable destination, and per-link click data.

Pair short links with UTM parameters before shortening — the short link displays cleanly while still carrying full attribution to your analytics tool.

Understand what t.co actually does to every link you post: X wraps it for its own click measurement and abuse screening, and the wrapper counts against your character budget at a fixed length regardless of your URL's real length. Two redirects sounds heavy; in practice both are fast server-side hops.
